The Talisman was designed to interrupt that moment, I discovered this way before I designed the very first Talisman
This started with a wig, makeup and something I didn’t have language for, for years, I’d cosplay & use expressive make-up, but it was never the character or the persona that took over, it WAS me, the version that never quite made it into the room.
When I put it on, something shifted in me, not gradually but almost immediately, powerful parts of me became instantly accessible, A version of myself I’d struggled to access, suddenly felt available
To be in rooms without feeling myself pulling back or trying to blend in, not second-guessing how I was coming across or making myself easier to digest.
I started to see something I could no longer hide, I didn’t need another costume, I needed something I could wear everyday, something that stopped me slipping back
The costume never gave me what I didn’t have;
it was the anchor to stop hiding what I already had.
Knowing who you want to be doesn’t make it real; it becomes real in the moments you would have chosen the safer version of yourself and don’t. Without something physical to reach for, you don’t access her; you default.
